Clinical Trials:

Clinical trials are a series of carefully designed studies that investigate the safety and effectiveness of a drug candidate in human subjects. These trials are typically divided into several phases:

    Phase 1: This initial phase involves a small number of healthy volunteers and aims to assess the safety, dosage, and pharmacokinetics of the drug. Researchers determine how the drug is absorbed, distributed, metabolized, and excreted by the body.

    Phase 2: In this phase, the drug is tested in a larger group of patients with the target disease or condition. The focus is on establishing preliminary evidence of efficacy and continuing to monitor safety.

    Phase 3: Phase 3 trials are large-scale, randomized, and controlled studies that provide more comprehensive data on efficacy, safety, and dosage. These trials often involve thousands of participants and help determine whether the drug is effective compared to existing treatments or a placebo.

    Phase 4 (Post-Marketing Surveillance): After regulatory approval and market launch, phase 4 involves ongoing monitoring of the drug’s safety and effectiveness in a real-world clinical setting. This phase may uncover rare or long-term side effects.

Regulatory Approval:

Successful completion of clinical trials leads to the submission of a New Drug Application (NDA) or Biologics License Application (BLA) to regulatory agencies like the FDA in the United States. If the data demonstrate that the drug’s benefits outweigh its risks, regulatory approval may be granted, allowing the drug to enter the market.
